In an apparent move to stem the wave of public outrage that trailed last Monday’s conviction and sentencing of former Assistant Director of Police Pension Office, Mr. John Yahaya Yusufu, by an Abuja High Court, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, re-arrested him and dragged him before a Federal High Court on a four-count charge relating to false declaration of assets. $286m loan: EFCC asked to step into Uba, Maduka, Access Bank saga

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been invited to take immediate interest in the $286 million triangular loan saga among the Access Bank, Vincent Maduka of the Coscharis Motors and Andy Uba of the Capital Oil.

The Coalition Against Corruption Leaders (CACOL), has called on Nigerian judges to desist from treating corruption cases with kid gloves.

Corruption cases: Be upright and just – CACOL tasks Judges

Nigerian judges have been cautioned to stop treating corruption cases with “kid gloves”.

Yesterday we reported how the Lagos State government sentenced 39 beggars to help clear the streets but its move has come under attack from the Coalition against Corrupt Leaders who condemned the government for prosecuting the beggars.

Govt failure responsible for street begging – CACOL

The Coalition against Corrupt Leaders has condemned the Lagos State Government for prosecuting 39 beggars.

The LASG prosecuted the beggars in its Special Offences Court in Alausa, Ikeja, for soliciting alms.

The state also claimed the beggars constituted public nuisance  thereby committing an offence under the criminal law of the state.

27 Billion naira pension thief gets N750,000 fine, Lawyers condemn lenient sentence

Some lawyers and members of the nation’s civil society have condemned the two-year jail term passed on a director in the Police Pension Office, Mr. John Yusuf, who was said to have been involved in a total fraud worth N27bn.
