CACOL Condemns Buhari’s Appointment As UNN Governing Council Member

DeboThe Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has condemned the appointment of the former Speaker House of Representatives, Alhaji Salisu Buhari, as a member of the Governing Council of University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, in Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the composition and appointments of the chairmen and members of the governing councils for some federal universities. University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has Prof. Emeka Enejere as the Chairman of Council, while Alhaji Salisu Buhari, Chador  Labar,  Harison Onwu, and Chief Akin Taiwo are members. The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has thrown its weight behind the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s call for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, over the allegations of massive corruption perpetrated in the state.

Speaking on behalf of CACOL, its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran, averred that Shelle’s allegation of massive corruption in the Centre of Excellence corroborated CACOL’s petition to the EFCC and therefore called on the anti-graft agency to begin investigation into the allegations without further delay. Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders on Tuesday met with officials of Kick Against Indiscipline and the Lagos State Police Command over the assault on a PUNCH photojournalist, Mr. Goke Famadewa.

Famadewa was attacked two weeks ago by officers of KAI and the police attached to the Taskforce on Environmental Offences Unit for taking pictures of illegal structures being demolished at Sandgrouse, Igbosere, Lagos Island.

The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders,CACOL, has asked the Federal Government to prosecute former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for his mismanagement of the country’s finances while in power.

Obasanjo had on Sunday at the 50th birthday anniversary of the former Minister of Education, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, called on President Goodluck Jonathan administration to probe him and not those who served under him during his government. Probe Obasanjo now, coalition demands

THE Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, has called on the federal government to expedite action at prosecuting former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the financial malpractices he perpetuated during his eight year regime.

CACOL made the call following the statement credited to the former president asking the FG to prosecute him for all wrongs done in his administration rather than prosecuting his aides. Old men and women, some holding walking sticks taller than their frail, bending, physique and some accosted by their siblings, formed a sight of the crowd that besieged Adeniran Museum and Gallery, home of the Adenirans, christened “Ile Olowoye”, in Iresi, Osun State where Oyeladeniran Foundation for Community Development held its annual Iresi Socio-Cultural Festival. The three day event which kicked off with a musical night climaxed with a night out the second day to usher participants as well as the entire community into the New Year. Residents laud anti-corruption protests

Convinced of the justification of their sustained protests against socio-economic deprivations which have become the hallmark of public governance in recent times, scores of residents in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have continued to commend civil society organisations in the territory for fighting for rights of the vulnerable millions of Nigerians denied socio-economic dividends of governance over years.

The residents noted that if it were not for the daring protests and other civil actions against corrupt political regimes, Nigeria would have ranked high among countries with despotic and authoritarian leaders who are more of a curse than blessings, given the way they pursue self-serving interests to the detriment of the governed. CACOL calls for probe into attack on Punch photojournalist

Sequel to the attack on Punch photojournalist, the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, has called for the probe  of  police officers and KAI officials by the Lagos police command.

In a press statement made available to Nigerian Pilot and signed by CACOL’s executive chairman, Debo Adeniran yesterday, Adeniran stated that it was necessary to draw the attention of the Commissioner of Police to the aberration perpetrated by some men of the Nigeria Police and some Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI officials who attacked a photojournalist working with Punch newspapers, Mr. Goke Famadewa, on Monday for taking pictures of illegal structures being demolished at Sandgrouse, Igbosere area of Lagos Island.
