CACOL CONDEMNS YOBE KILLING

PRESS RELEASE
The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has condemned the killing of about 90 students of the School of Agriculture, Guijba in Yobe State by the fundamentalist Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

The Sect members attacked the College of Agriculture situated along the Guijba-Damaturu Road at 12 midnight on Sunday when most of the students were already asleep.

Speaking through its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran, the Coalition condemned the heinous killing and the government’s incompetence in handling the issue.

He said, “This killing of the innocent students is the high of cruelty. The government has demonstrated that it is incompetent to tackle the nation’s insecurity problem. This senseless destruction of lives with the apparent failure of the government apparata at all levels to curtail it, has been pulling the nation to a brink. How many lives will be lost before a practicable solution is discovered to end this carnage? The nonchalant attitude of the government towards the security situation in the country is uncalled for. Schools were closed down because of attacks, then re-opened, which measures were put in place before re-opening the schools? This means that some of our leaders are playing politics with the lives of the defenseless citizens by allowing these killings to go unchecked. Security of lives is the responsibility of any responsible government.”

The human rights activist however, urged the FG to find a lasting solution to the problem of insurgency in the country to avert more loss of lives.

“Government should stop paying lip service to tackling insecurity in the country. It is now clear that the rhetoric that government is winning the war against terrorism in the country is only happening on the pages of newspapers, the government should take the war against terrorism more seriously to avert greater carnage than this,” Adeniran said.
