Some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have pledged to investigate the allegation of corruption against some officials of Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State.

The NGOs are the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) and Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC), among others. Chairman of OCSC, Alhaji Waheed Lawal, who disclosed this to National Mirror, said CACOL’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Debo Adeniran, was also interested in getting to the root of the allegation.

He said Adeniran mandated the leadership of civil societies to unravel the mysteries surrounding the allegation during the annual convention of CACOL held recently in Lagos.

Lawal said the organisation had begun investigation into the allegation and would soon round off the process and make available its report to the public. It will be recalled that National Mirror on August 12, 2013, reported that councillors in the local government area accused some officials of embezzling N84 million meant for community services and other projects.

The fund, according to sources, included May and June allocations released to the local government by the state government as well as the special allocation for Ramadan gifts for community leaders and organisations.

The councilors also alleged that the officials mismanaged another N86 million earlier released to the council in May as allocation for the months of March and April, and as a result reported the matter to the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Lawal pledged that his organisation would not allow the matter to be swept under the carpet.
